Liz moved to Philadelphia in 2011 to serve as an AmeriCorps member with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Red Cross. Growing up in Virginia, she worked as an EMT in Richmond as well as a volunteer firefighter in her hometown. With the Red Cross, Liz taught preparedness classes to the Philadelphia community, responded to local and national disasters, and worked as a caseworker at the Red Cross House. As a caseworker, Liz was struck by the critical role Red Paw was playing in her clients’ recovery.
When her AmeriCorps year ended in 2012, Liz began volunteering with Red Paw and now fills the role of client caseworker. Liz helps asses what services Red Paw can provide to each client and keeps them updated on their pets’ well-being until they can be reunited. She also helps with emergency transports, promoting the organization, and recruiting other volunteers.
Liz lives in West Philly with her husband and Dalmatian-mix where she’s an assistant teacher in a head start program and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work.
